There are five main considerations whenever building a chicken coop. When initially coming up with the design for your chicken coop plans it might be a good idea to compare with pre-existing plans to get a proper idea of what a coop layout might look like. Materials that are easily cleaned and sanitized are also important with the floors and walls being periodically disinfected. Your hens should also have sufficient protection from all potential environmental threats. Things such as wind, rain, even natural predators should be taken into consideration as they affect the health and well-being of your chickens. Your hens should receive a proper amount of lighting and ventilation within the coop itself. It should be adjustable so that cool air can flow in during the summer, and then well insulated for better protection during winter. Accommodations in your chicken coop plans should also be made so that food and water is easily accessible. Feeders and waterer’s should be slightly elevated so that you chickens don’t make too much of a mess.
